Flutter Donated $350,000 to Blood Cancer Charity
The Flutter Charity Ball helped raise more than $450,000 (£357,000) to fund clinical trials for Cure Leukaemia as part of its pledge to improve 10 million lives by 2030.
The fundraising was a continuous year-long process for Flutter Enterainment, owner of FanDuel and some of the best online casinos and sportsbooks around the world, culminating in the Flutter Charity Ball held at the Royal Armouries in Leeds. More than $350,000 of the overall total was raised in that one star-studded night as patrons, sports personalities, and charity ambassadors all turned out.
George Lineker, son of footballing legend and Match of the Day host Gary Lineker, spoke about his personal battle with acute Myeloid Leukaemia as an infant.
Experimental Treatments Get a Boost
The Aticus network costs £1m annually to run and is pivotal in offering clinical trials. This year, it will extend its reach to children for the first time, providing a lifeline to families seeking advanced treatments. Flutter Entertainment has helped boost their coffers significantly and will fund a substantial amount of research into potential treatments for a variety of blood cancers.
Among the ambassadors was George Lineker, son of former footballer Gary Lineker, who shared his personal experience of surviving acute myeloid Leukaemia as a baby. Families who were supported by Cure Leukaemia also took to the stage to share their personal stories.
Commenting on the event, Steve Birch, CCO of Sky Betting & Gaming, stated: “The charity ball is always our biggest fundraising event, and every year, our colleagues and partners never disappoint as they come together to raise money for well-deserving causes.“I’ve visited the Christy Research Centre in Manchester, which is one of 15 centers that Cure Leukaemia supports, and I saw the importance and impact that the money Flutter has raised over the last year makes.
“We are truly grateful for the generosity of attendees who collectively helped us to raise a great amount for Cure Leukaemia so they can continue their work to find a cure for blood cancer.”
James McLaughlin, CEO of Cure Leukaemia added: “We are thrilled and deeply grateful for the incredible support shown at the Flutter Ball. The funds raised will make a profound impact on our mission to bring hope to the 250,000 people living with blood cancer in the UK. This generosity not only empowers groundbreaking research but also brings us closer to a future free from this devastating disease.”
Big Goals for Flutter’s Social Program
Flutter’s Positive Impact Plan aims to give back and improve 10 million lives by 2030 with a series of community-focused programs. The Flutter Foundation launched in Spain this year, and the team behind it will promote inclusion for the poor and marginalized in Spain. It’s a far-reaching program, and Flutter Entertainment is one of the few that could take this on.
The owner of FanDuel in the USA, Sky Betting & Gaming in the UK that includes Sky Vegas, Paddy Power, PokerStars, and many more has posted record revenues this year and continues to grow with aggressive acquisitions. If international betting companies like Flutter Entertainment can give a little back and help change the world along the way, it will do their public image no harm at all.
