Boylesports has launched a major charity challenge for this year’s Professional Darts Corporation World Grand Prix. The title sponsor for the event has unveiled the ‘D20 for  £20′ Charity Challenge, where BoyleSports will donate £20 for every double 20 that players hit during the week-long event in October.

The World Grand Prix takes place at the Mattioli Arena in Leicester in the UK from 7-13th October. It features a double-start format, so competitors have to hit a double before they start scoring, as well as finishing out each leg with a double. Most players aim for that double top to start, so this could get expensive for BoyleSports.

An Expensive Gesture

Sharon McHugh, Head of PR and Sponsorship for BoyleSports, stated: “We’re delighted to introduce our ‘D20 for £20’ Charity Challenge at this year’s BoyleSports World Grand Prix, which is always one of the most thrilling events on the darts calendar.

“The unique double-in format makes it a perfect stage to bring awareness to a range of charitable causes and we can’t wait to see which player hits the most Double 20s and the positive impact it will have on their chosen charity.”

Each player will nominate a charity, and the player with the most double 20s scoops the prize fund for their chosen good cause. Defending champion Luke Humphries will donate money to Prostate Cancer UK, and six-time champion Michael van Gerwen has nominated the Make-a-Wish Foundation

Is Darts Coming Back?

Darts is enjoying a renaissance in terms of viewing figures and also its popularity as a betting sport is on the rise. The 2024 World Darts Championship set new records, with a 45% increase in wages over 2023. The US has taken an interest in darts betting, too, and the amount wagered has increased more than 60% year-on-year compared to 2023.

The rise of young star Luke Littler has brought significant coverage, but also the sport and sportsbook sites that support it have adapted to the betting world. Legs are relatively quick and effectively the score resets every few minutes. So match bets are still popular, but the sports betting sites have also broken down the games to allow for a series of bets during each match.

We’re sure the numbers at the 2024 World Grand Prix are going to be impressive, and we also appreciate the fact that some good causes will get an influx of much-needed funds.
