Horseplay Review 2025
Launched in 2012, Horseplay is a sweepstakes casino with a twist. While it works similarly to other sweepstakes casinos in that you are relying on luck, there is a big difference. Rather than betting on RNG-tested games, whether or not you win is down to the outcome of horse races.
Granted, this sounds quite confusing. But don’t worry, as the process returns to familiar territory after the horse racing is out of the way. Once the horse races have been completed, players can enjoy Slots from a number of major iGaming software developers like IGT. This is where you “unlock” the winnings from the horse races. Players can deposit as little as $10, but new players can also get a 200% deposit bonus up to $250, or 100% up to $20.
Covering this unique casino is going to take some time, so keep reading my in-depth Horseplay review to help you decide if this is the right online casino for you.
Pros
- Major iGaming developers
- Generous welcome bonus
- Mobile-optimized casino
- Easy to use site
- Excellent customer support
- Transparent casino model
Cons
- Only available in 18 states
- No deposit bonus unavailable
Editor’s Note
Horseplay’s combination of sweepstakes and horse racing betting provides a unique approach to offer US customers real money casino gambling. However, the extra licensing requirements associated with real money casino gambling also means that its availability is extremely limited.
There’s also no form of no deposit bonuses, but other types of promotions are available to make up for this. Of course, whether or not this is enough to win you over is solely down to the individual player in question.
Legal States
Although it operates largely like a sweepstakes casino, Horseplay is legally classified as a racebook. This makes state-by-state operating licenses much harder to acquire, so Horseplay is unavailable to most US players.
Horseplay is only available in Alaska, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Kansas, Montana, North Dakota, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
How Horseplay Works
As Horseplay operates a sweepstakes model, the standard two-currency system is also present here, with Cash and Credits instead of Gold Coins and Sweeps Coins. However, here is where the casino diverges from a standard sweeps model. Making a real money deposit grants you Cash. These cannot be used to play casino games directly, and instead must be used to buy Credits.
Once you’ve bought a package of Credits, the total value of that package is wagered on a series of horse races. After this, Credits are used to play casino games, but whether or not you win, and how much, isn’t determined by the outcome of a RNG but by how the horses you bet on performed. Anything you win can subsequently be either cashed out or used to buy new Credits.
Horseplay Bonuses
Horseplay’s welcome bonus isn’t the typical no deposit bonus that you might expect from a sweepstakes-style casino. Instead, the casino offers a very generous first purchase bonus up to 200% that gives you up to $500 in free credits. However, you need to make a purchase of over $20 to unlock the 200% bonus, as packages worth $20 or below are restricted to a 100% deposit match bonus. It’s also worth noting that these first purchase bonuses come with a high 10x wagering requirement.
Bear in mind that there is another caveat here, as this is only available to players in Alabama, Delaware, Florida, Kansas, North Dakota, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, and Wisconsin.

While the first purchase bonus offers an effective way to boost your playing funds, Horseplay also caters its casino bonuses to its existing players. Players receive silver, gold, platinum and emerald bonuses when they make a Credit purchase, which offer extra chances to play.
There is also a Hit Big or Land Easy bonus, which comes in two parts. If your winnings on the horse races are less than less than 20% of your Credit purchase, you’ll be rewarded 20% of your stake thanks to the Land Easy part of the bonus. What’s more, scoring a win worth more than 330% of your stake bumps your winnings up to 600% of your Credit purchase thanks to the Hit Big part of the bonus. I Hit Big three times while testing the site and walked away with over $500 in winnings.
The Big Player bonus is available in California, Colorado, Montana, New York, Oregon and Wyoming, although players in the other accepted states receive a similar Multistate Big Player Bonus.
Besides this, the other bonuses on offer are:
- A First Purchase Bonus of 100% when you deposit up to $20, or 200% when you deposit up to $250. Both First Purchase Bonuses come with a wagering requirement of 10x.
- Up to $150 Freeplay every Friday. This depends on how much you have played with. $50 to $100 grants $5 back, $101 to $500 grants $50 back, and more than $501 grants $150 back.
- A Yearly Sweepstakes Draw with a current top prize of $1 million.
- A Bounce Back bonus of 10% of your total net loss during the weekend of up to $150 in Credits.
- Horseplay Happy Hours Monday-Wednesday from 4PM to 7PM PT where you can get 20% cashback up to $20 in Credits.
- Horseplay Tournaments – Play Horseplay Slots to climb the leaderboard, with a top prize of $500 in Credits at the end of the month, and 200 prizes up for grabs.
Horseplay Bonus – Assessment & Verdict
8/10: Bonuses are great but not excellent.
Our Feedback: While Horseplay provides a large number of casino bonuses, the lack of a no deposit bonus and a Daily Login bonus is very disappointing. Virtually every bonus is essentially paywalled, which is disappointing for a sweepstakes casino model. There are numerous rewards that are unlocked once you make a purchase though, so this does partially offset the need to spend money.
Overall, while there are plenty of bonuses, the lack of free rewards on offer means that I can’t give this area higher than an 8.
Pros
- Very generous first purchase bonus
- Range of promotions
- Cashback available
Cons
- No deposit bonuses unavailable
- No Daily Login bonus
Horseplay Games Selection
Horseplay has a small casino games library of over 100 titles, but there are a number of major developers like IGT. Most of the games are Slots, although there are a number of Arcade and Bingo titles present as well. All games are fully available to players, and demo mode is also available, which is very nice to see. While volatility and RTP data is available at the casino, it’s not needed as whether you win or not is based on the horse races, as I mentioned earlier.

Online Slots
Online Slots make up the bulk of the library at Horseplay, and are split into four categories: New Releases, Spinners, Reel Classics, and More Great Games. However, there’s not much variety on offer here, which most likely has to do with the fact that the Slots themselves don’t impact your chances of winning.
Features like Scatter-based games and Megaways are not available in any of the Slots. The minimum bet is $0.40, which is a bit high for my liking, especially as there is no guarantee how much you’ll actually win like with a normal Slot.
Arcade Games
Most of the Arcade Games utilize Bingo or Scratch Card mechanics, but they are incredibly enjoyable to play regardless. I was also happy to see other methods of play besides Bingo and Scratch Cards, as I enjoyed playing Video Poker on Horseplay as well.
There’s also a unique title called In the Black, where you have to clear black squares against the clock. Land on a white square and it’s game over. This was a lot more fun than I anticipated, although I wouldn’t play this game on a mobile phone as it’s much easier to land on a white square by accident.
Horseplay Games – Assessment & Verdict
7/10: The games library is decent for its size but is nothing special.
Our Feedback: Horseplay’s library is easily its weakest area, and this isn’t helped by its small size. There’s no thrill of winning, as everything has already been predetermined by the horse races, and this takes a fair bit of the fun away. While most of its library is Slots, they were mostly boring to play.
That said, I liked the alternative games, especially In the Black. I also really like the fact that Video Poker is available here, as most sweeps casinos that I’ve encountered don’t offer it.
Pros
- No reliance on RTP
- Number of major iGaming developers
Cons
- Small games library
Horseplay Banking
The banking system at Horseplay is incredibly simple. Although the payment options at Horseplay are restricted, staple methods like Mastercard, Visa and Bank Transfers are all available. It’s also easy to buy Credits ranging from $10 to $250, and the deposits are almost instant.
Remember, you’re not betting on casino games outright as you are instead betting on horse races when you purchase Credits. I like the fact that you can check which horses you’re betting on by clicking the ‘See Wager Details’ button, and you can also reshuffle your wagers if you don’t like what you’ve been given.

Horseplay Banking – Assessment & Verdict
7/10: The banking process is good, but the payment and withdrawal options are very restricted.
Our Feedback: The banking process at Horseplay is very straightforward, which is a big plus in my eyes. Although the payment and withdrawal options are very restricted, they still manage to include the staple methods, so I can’t be too harsh on them.
While I like the fact that you can reshuffle your wagers, I don’t like the fact that the redemption process can take up to 5 or 10 days, as I don’t see why anyone should have to wait that long to enjoy their winnings.
Pros
- Easy banking process
- Instant deposit
- Unique playing design for horse racing enthusiasts
Cons
- Very limited purchase and redemption methods
- Long redemption period
Is Horseplay Legit?
As Horseplay entails an element of sports betting, this requires a stronger license than your typical sweepstake casino. Although Horseplay is licensed in the states it operates in, the stricter requirements mean it is unavailable in most US states.
The extra licensing requirements also lends itself to greater transparency, which I always like to see. Tracking your horses is easy, and the fact that you can reshuffle your bets is also a welcome touch. The transparency also helped me get a rough estimate of how much I should win, and after testing it out I found that Horseplay was true to their word as the predicted and actualized results were a near-enough exact match.

Responsible Social Gameplay
Horseplay showcases a clear commitment to their player’s safety, giving players numerous tools to protect themselves through their b safe program. This includes:
- b safe Awareness – Responsible Gambling tools are shown to players right from the start.
- Deposit Limits – variety of options available.
- Timeout – Once set, players cannot log in or make new deposits once they’ve reached their maximum playtime.
- Permanent self-exclusion.
Horseplay Trust & Safety – Assessment & Verdict
10/10: Nothing but a perfect score.
Our Feedback: Put simply, I don’t have any bad things to say about Horseplay’s commitments to its players’ security. The casino hold themselves to a much higher standard on player safety thanks to their racebook license requirement, and they are fully transparent in how your winnings are accrued, and what horses you bet on.
Their Responsible Gambling tools also cover all the necessary areas, so I cannot give Horseplay anything but a perfect score in this area.
Pros
- Properly licensed
- Transparent way of seeing how wins are determined
- Wide range of Responsible Gambling tools
Horseplay Customer Support
Horseplay also shines in regards to its customer support offering. In particular, I’m a huge fan of the free-to-access Live Chat, and the FAQ section is also well-stocked, so I was able to solve plenty of common issues myself without even having to get in touch in the first place.
The only gripes I have are rather small, and they are pretty easy to fix. I’d like to see the casino engage more with its customers on social media, and introduce phone support. While the Live Chat is great, it may not be ideal for those who prefer to speak to someone in real time.

Horseplay Customer Support – Assessment & Verdict
9/10: Wide range of customer support contact options to cater to almost every need.
Our Feedback: As customer support can make or break your experience, I was very happy to see that Horseplay gave this area the attention it deserved. Most of your problems can be solved using the FAQs and the Help Center in general, and this really helps the speed of getting problems solved as you don’t need to get the customer service team involved.
If you do happen to need them though, the Live 24/7 Chat ensures they are always available, and even better they have a quick response time as well. There’s also an email option available, and although this is inevitably slower, I like the fact that Horseplay have still included it for those who prefer this contact method.
While I was slightly disappointed by the absence of phone support, there are so many excellent customer service options available that this is only a very minor issue.
Pros
- 24/7 Live Chat
- Helpful FAQs
- Quick response time
Cons
- No phone support
Horseplay UX
Horseplay’s simple gaming model means that I wasn’t surprised that the interface was also very standard. Granted, the categorization could be better but the website is still very easy to use. I also like the fact that an iOS app is available, although the lack of an Android app is something I would like to see fixed in the future.
Overall, I found that the website largely worked well for all mobile casino players regardless of device. There were times when I had to refresh the page as it would freeze, but these occasions were rare.

Horseplay UI – Assessment & Verdict
8/10: Easy to get around the website.
Our Feedback: There’s nothing really special about Horseplay’s UX, but that’s not a bad thing. Getting around and using the website is the most important thing here. Although the design is fairly standard, the website performs mostly very well in this regard, whether you are on a computer or a mobile phone.
That said, I was annoyed by the need to refresh the page when the casino froze, as this impacted the seamless gameplay experience I have come to expect from an online casino. However, it has to be said these instances were rare, so this wasn’t enough to lower my overall score for the casino in this area.
Pros
- Easy to get around
- Straightforward design
Cons
- No Android app
- Sometimes froze while playing on mobile
Horseplay Sister Sites
As Horseplay is a very unique website, I wasn’t surprised to find out that it doesn’t have any sister sites. Of course, this could change in the future, but I very much doubt it will at the time of writing.
Our Verdict
I’ll be honest, Horseplay is a mixed bag as far as I’m concerned. I like the transparency in the way winnings are determined, and that Horseplay is still able to maintain the luck-based element that has made casinos so popular. Yet, it’s very unique to the point where it might be off-putting to some.
Besides this, I personally found the generous first-purchase bonuses on offer very tempting. However I don’t believe that this is enough to make up for the absence of a Daily Login bonus, as I prefer playing at casinos that give you a free incentive to come back for more.
As I said, the casino’s blend of horse racing and casino betting might not be for everyone. If you’re looking for something different, I would say you should give it a go. However, if you know what you like, this might not be the best online casino for you.

How does Horseplay work?
Horseplay works by combining horse racing with casino style games. When you purchase a credit package, you’re really betting on a variety of horse races. However, to reveal the results and collect your winnings, you use your purchased credits to play casino style games.
Where is Horseplay legal?
Horseplay is quite restricted due to the way it operates, and is only available in Alaska, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Kansas, Montana, North Dakota, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
Can you win real money with Horseplay?
Yes you can, however the process is a bit more complicated then you might be expecting. When you reveal winnings through casino games, any money you win goes into your cash balance. This can then be withdrawn into your bank account, or used to purchase additional credit packages.
Is Horseplay a sweepstakes casino or a racebook?
While Horseplay is classed as a racebook, it operates fairly similarly to a sweepstakes casino. The only big difference is that results are determined by horse races rather than an RNG system.
What is the Horseplay welcome bonus?
There are two Horseplay welcome bonuses on offer, but players can only choose one. New players can get a 100% first purchase bonus on a package of up to $20, or a 200% bonus on a package up to $250.
Does Horseplay have a mobile app?
While Horseplay has a mobile app for iOS users, this isn’t the case for Android phones. However, Android users can access their mobile site as normal by using a browser.
