The Dark Knight Rises was one of Microgaming’s most prolific non-progressive jackpot online slot machines, and the sequel in their Batman franchise based on Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, which starred Christian Bale as Batman. Although not as richly rewarding as its predecessor – the progressive Dark Knight slot – The Dark Knight Rises offered a bunch of new features not seen in The Dark Knight and was capable of offering wins worth up to 7,500x your total bet.It has since been discontinued by Microgaming, after their fierce rivals, Playtech recently acquired the DC/Warner Bros licence from them. The Dark Knight Rises will be missed, but many would say nowhere near as much as its predecessor, The Dark Knight.

Look and feel

The Dark Knight Rises was played over five reels and in Microgaming’s typical 243 ways to win format. It showcased all your favourite characters from that film, including Batman, Selina Kyle, Bane, Bruce Wayne (as a separate icon), and Commissioner Gordon. Some of the images were animated so that clips from the movie as well as audio would play at key points.Other graphical features included Batman and Bane duking it out across the reels, which in turn added free spins and multipliers to two counters above the reels.

The Dark Knight Rises was a sufficiently cheap slot to play. As is often the case with Microgaming 243 ways to win slots, you didn’t have too much room to move, but you could still wager anything from 0.30 per spin, up to $150 a spin on this slot. This made it much more expensive than The Dark Knight, even though this sequel did not carry a progressive jackpot.

There was no shortage of special features in The Dark Knight when it was around. A Symbol Scramble feature could rearrange the symbols of any random losing spin into a win, whilst an expanding wild symbol could appear on the third reel, too. The highlight was the free spins bonus, which allowed you to choose between Batman or Bane spins and bag the number of spins and multiplier their respective counters showcased (as we’ve already mentioned).Bane spins offered a Rolling Reels feature, whilst super stacked wilds could be won by entering the bonus a number of times. Batman’s spins allowed players to choose extra wilds, and if they entered the bonus several times, they could unlock Heat Seeking Wilds, which acted as random wilds.
